Established in 1926 by architect Martin Roche, and administered by the AIA Chicago Foundation, the Martin Roche Travel Scholarship gives a student the opportunity to independently study architecture abroad.
As the 2013 Martin Roche Fellow, I investigated innovative architectural, urban planning, and development models operating within the public interest design sector of Southern Africa. I examined participatory design-based settlement upgrading, urban planning initiatives, hybrid practice models, and principles of socio-technical design utilized by a confederation of design practitioners operating in South Africa and Zambia.
I presented my research at the AIA Chicago Foundation and at PechaKucha Chicago - Volume 31.
